Formal Letter Writing: Official or Formal Letters are very important from the perspective of upcoming West Bengal Civil Service Exams, West Bengal School Service Commission exams, West Bengal Primary Tet, and Madhyamik Pariksha.

1. Application to your Headmaster for a leave of absence.

Now, he has been transferred from this area to Delhi. In this situation, our family will have to shift to Delhi. So I need a transfer certificate.

Therefore, I request you to kindly issue a transfer certificate in favour of me and oblige me thereby.

Rules of Writing

So, to write a formal or official letter, we need:-

An addressee to whom we are going to write the letter. It is written at the left corner of your page as shown in the specimens.

Then we need to greet him/ her. So it is recommended to write “Respected Sir/Madam “. If you are sure about the gender of the addressee, you can write accordingly. It is called Salutation.

Next comes the body of the letter, where one writes the subject or information about which he/she is going to write the letter.

After that, you should write the Subscription. Here, you write “Yours faithfully” or “Yours ever” etc.

The signature is done in full under the subscription.

After that, you should write the full address of the Addressee / the Organization / the Office.

So, these are the six important rules which have to follow to write an official letter or formal letter.
